NYC #1: The Food

Bagels

We had a bagel and coffee for breakfast on the first morning. It was pretty much like it is when I have a bagel at home, except...we were in New York!

Pizza

This is what the pizza looked like at Grimaldi's in Brooklyn. We waited in line for an hour and a half for this pie. I enjoyed listening to the great conversations going on all around us while waiting in line.

The big green tree on the far right covers up the beginning of the line and the end of the line can not be seen in this photo! The atmosphere inside is great with old Sinatra tunes playing and red and white checkered cloth on the tables. The pizza is cooked in a coal oven and it's pretty spectacular.

Ice Cream

This is an ice cream sundae from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. They make the ice cream on site and serve it out of this charming building. I know that the whipped cream is also homemade because one time we got here when they were just opening and I had to wait (and watch) as they made the whipped cream.

The spot where we were seated right here is underneath the Brooklyn Bridge and overlooking the Manhattan skyline. After we finished eating, we headed back over the bridge on foot. Great night!
Hot Dogs

We usually eat at Grey's Papaya, a famous hot dog institution in NY, but this time we decided to try a Nathan's Dog since we were on Coney Island. They were just as good as Grey's but a little bit pricier.

Carnegie Deli

This is a pastrami sandwich. I had seen some special on the Food Network about the pastrami at the Carnegie Deli, so I got one. Didn't really care for it, but Justin ended up eating it instead of his "dry" turkey sandwich. Pretty much a waste of $40 (and that was not including a tip).

Magnolia Bakery

These cupcakes speak for themselves.

More Pizza?

We actually ate pizza on 3 different occasions. This is a pizza from John's Pizzeria on Bleeker Street. Justin let me go a little crazy and order mushrooms on my half of the pizza.

Chelsea Market

This is a picture from one of the many cool shops in the Chelsea Market where the Food Network studios are located. I just loved the colors of these cupcakes.
Eating was our main priority on this trip. By no means did we take full advantage of the amazing range of cuisine available to us in the city. There are around 18,000 restaurants to choose from, but with husband in tow, we tend to "play it safe." Not too shabby, though!

More trip blogging to come...

  1. I've been waiting for this post!!!! The cupcakes are gorgeous! The display really shows them off. I'd be up for another trip to the city if cuisine was the main priority!
