A Pear a Day

Hey look! It's my table again.

Only now there are real pears in the bowl rather than $1 Dollar Tree pears. Yea! Real is always better than fake...in my book.

The beautiful pears are perfect for fall decor, but I still have these:

My good friend Bo dropped off a 5 gallon bucket for me yesterday. He has a pear tree and I begged him for pears when they were ready. Now that I have them, I am feeling some pressure to really go the extra mile. I spent some time this evening trying to decide what I am going to do with all of these pears over the next few days. Here's what I came up with.

III Forks Salad
(with blue cheese and maple pecan vinaigrette, subbing pears for apples)
(more blue cheese...sensing a theme here?)

(Mainly because I have all the ingredients on hand already)
(OH yeah. Come to Mamma!)

and finally...

Uncle Roger's Apple Cake
(only I'm using pears)

1 1/4 c. vegetable oil
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
3 c. flour
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp soda
4 Delicious Apples, peeled, chopped
1 c pecans, chopped
1 tsp vanilla

Mix all ingredients by hand. DO NOT use mixer. Pour in greased and floured bundt pan. Bake at 325 for 1.5 hrs (WHOA!) Place under cake lid while still warm. "Stays fresh for weeks," says my uncle Roger on the little old recipe card I am typing this from.
Not really sure about that but it won't be around more than a couple days anyway, trust me. When my Uncle Roger used to make this cake, it was out of this world good. I can't wait to give it a shot. Hopefully the pears will work???

Got any great pear recipes? Love to hear about 'em!
