A Weekend of Surprises

What a weekend! I am blessed so greatly by wonderful family and friends. You see, I have a birthday coming up in a few days. It's kind of a big one...to me anyways. I will be 30. So apparently this was the weekend to celebrate!

On Friday night 4 of my girlfriends surprised me with dinner at my favorite restaurant. The weather was so nice we were able to sit outside by the fire and surrounded by twinkle lights--my favorite. The atmosphere was wonderful---like a Parisian bistro. We ate and talked and talked and ate some more! It was so much fun! I felt like a real live "housewife."

A little side note about this group: We started getting together this summer to watch The Housewives of Atlanta (which we no longer watch together because some of us felt guilty...but I think we all still watch it separately and secretly. For shame. Ha!) Anyway, we dubbed ourselves the Housewives of Gunter and the acronym HOG was a quick keeper. I love my HOGs to death and look forward to many more adventures with them in the future :) MV, here we come!

Then on Saturday night came yet another surprise. My husband sent me a text from work the night before saying he had made reservations at Ruth's Chris steak house for Saturday night and the kids were going to stay with his parents. Whoo hoo! So Saturday afternoon I got all fixed up and as we were headed out the door my dad called and asked if we could stop by and help move a piece of furniture before we left. Hmmm.

As we topped the hill where you can see my parents house, all of my family and friends were standing out in the driveway waving at me. Surprise! I felt so special! I was greeted with a smashing pair of "30" glasses, necklace and tiara. We had great food, visited and just had a wonderful time.

This is Kristi--my best friend of about 29 years. I believe she was the mastermind behind the festivities. She did a wonderful job decorating, making the cupcakes and gifted me with a beautiful scrapbook documenting our life-long friendship. I always thank God for her and could not ask for a more caring, compassionate, understanding, and faithful friend.

Jonah is right in the middle of a cousin sandwich. No where else on earth he'd rather be!

Cute cupcakes made by Kristi--in the shape of a '30' :)

I was very proud of my hubby for helping keep the secret and getting me to the party. I gave him a little scare as I tried to change our plans late on Saturday. He held firm, took the advice of my mom (acted like I'd hurt his feelings when I tried to change plans) and the surprise went off without a hitch. Love my man.
Now, I'm going to enjoy the last couple days in my 20's! Next time we talk, I'll be all grown up...
