Hello Again

Is it excessive to have two blogs? I just told my brother that I was rekindling my "old blog," Red Writing. He somewhat jokingly asked me why it wasn't enough just to share my thoughts with a few people in real life rather than share them with the whole world via computer. Jerk.

Just kidding. He makes a good point. I get it--some people feel that social media has sucked the life out of real life relationships. We allow it to stand in the place of phone calls, visits, face-to-face conversations thus bringing an end to authentic fellowship and acquaintances. I guess to an extent that can be true. When that does happen it really is a shame, but I don't think that is happening here.

Since I began blogging about 2 years ago I feel like I have, in a sense, reclaimed my mind. (I did lose it at one point last year, but that's for another post.) Suddenly reserved for determining how much formula to put into a bottle or how many poopy diapers I had changed since morning, my brain was slowly slipping away from me in those days. A good friend of mine had started a blog and when I finally got around to looking at it I thought it might be something I would enjoy. So in between naps I created this blog and began to journal my thoughts. I loved it.

Before long I would catch myself analyzing everything from news stories to scripture. Surprising to myself, I always had something to say and in effect something to blog about. What blogging did for me was not so much disconnect me from others as it did reconnect me to myself. Blogging, I feel, is an art...that brings me joy. And if for no other reason than that, I will continue to do it.

Last year I began another blog that had a very specific focus. My second home, if you will. I tried to keep both blogs going but I quickly learned that my focus on the second wouldn't allow my attention to be divided. That other blog would play a significant role in what was arguably the most defining year of my life. I thank God everyday for orchestrating that.

Lately I have been having lots of ideas and thoughts swirling around in my head that I can't seem to fit into the genre of my other blog. Instead I find myself typing little blurbs into the notepad app on my phone and that's just...hard. I have fat fingers. So, hello again my original, first-home blogger friends. If you started reading Red Writing when I became a craft nut and nearly lost my mind trying to make my house look like something off the pages of Better Homes, then you might be a little disappointed from here on out. There won't be much of that content anymore.

Nope. It's just me, Red, writing.

  5. Love that you are back--and you described exactly why I started blogging a couple of years back-I had so many swirling thoughts in my head, and it was so cathartic to get them out.
Now that I am teaching again, it is harder for me to find the time to blog-but I still love it.
    Glad to see you again-
