Grammy's Treasure Box

Yesterday at my mom's, I found a box filled with notes written by my maternal great-grandmother, Grammy. The notes are a mixture of scripture, quotes, note-worthy ideas from various readings, etc. It is basically her journal in a box. A literal treasure box, in my hands. The words are so simple and yet so relevant and full of wisdom. I just had to share some of this sweetness...

Bad habits are like a comfortably bed--easy to get into but hard to get out of.

Read Psalm 90.

Since every day is a gift from God, I live every day enthusiastically for Him.

Please obey the voice of the Lord--Jeremiah 38:20--The cost of obedience is nothing compared to the cost of disobedience.

The best thing to spend on your children is time.

"A Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn't." Vance Havner

Remember to pray for world rulers--God rules the world by the prayers of his saints.

How would you feel if God gave you the same amount of love as you devote to him?

Plan your work well and don't let Satan sidetrack you. It may be some slight irritation or some pleasure calling that keeps you from pursuing what you know you should be doing. Duties delayed are the devil's delight. What we are as Christians and what we will become should greatly influence our lifestyle. An awareness of who we are and what we are to become should transform our daily routine into a training ground for the future. The subjects of the King should always display the manners of the court.

I didn't really know my Grammy. She was leaving as I was coming, but she left behind a hand-written legacy that shows me what she was all about and what she hoped and prayed that I would be about. What a blessing. More from Grammy to come...

“All people are like grass,

and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.

The grass withers and the flowers fall,

because the breath of the LORD blows on them.

Surely the people are grass.

The grass withers and the flowers fall,

but the word of our God endures forever.”

Isaiah 40:6-8

  1. What a precious legacy, Keelie! Don't you feel like you know her better after reading this and even seeing her handwriting?

My grandfather died about 13 or so years before I was born. A few years ago, I found a whole bunch of minute books from my home church's session meetings. My grandfather had been the secretary and wrote the notes, and what a blessing it was just to see his handwriting and read those notes!

When I was about 9 years old, I found my grandmother's (who also died before I was born) weight watchers tracker from the 70s. I wish I had it now to read. =)

Can't wait to see what more is in store from your Grammy!
