I have been visiting some home idea blogs that are absolutely fabulous and I am now a home blogger wanna-be. Therefore, I have decided to take Red Writing in a different direction from time to time. This new direction will consist of me posting some of my favorite home projects and hopefully a lot of them will be new projects. What I decided to do tonight (since Glory woke me up at 12:30 am and I can't go back to sleep) is to share with you what I did with one roll of very expensive wallpaper. A couple of years ago when we semi-remodeled and moved into this home, I ran across some wallpaper that I could not live without. Usually I am not a fan of the seemingly antiquated design component. However, It was love at first sight when I saw this pattern. I was shocked and saddened to learn that one roll was going to set me back $100+. I was willing to purchase one roll so I did some brainstorming and came up with this solution for one wall in the dining room:
I selected a wall that was about 8' in width. The roll of wallpaper is about 2' in width. I simply applied a pre-pasted sheet of wallpaper on the left side of the wall and another sheet on the right side of the wall. That left a larger area of textured and painted surface in the middle. I covered the seams with painted trim.
Applying the wallpaper was slightly difficult. I would suggest having a friend there to help, but certainly--do not be afraid. There are detailed instructions included with the wallpaper and the "pre-pasted" product requires little prep work.
I had just enough paper left over to cover the back panel of my hutch that is on the opposite wall in the dining room. Doing this provided the unity needed to complete the look.
Next time you are at the paint store, check out the designer wallpapers. I bet you will find one you can't live without, too.

Love it! I am sooo doing this. What if my trim is already up? Think I can cut a clean enough line to make it work?

ReplyDeleteYes, I think you will be successful. I had to cut mine for the hutch and I actually just used a pair of scissors.Perfection has never been one of my strengths. Let me know how it goes!
